Hey, friends! I hope that this year has been fruitful for you so far. As I write this, I have just turned my clocks ahead 1 hour, and I am enjoying our first longer day of the year.

My theme for my healing this year is Grounding, and I want to take a few minutes to share about what practicing grounding is teaching me so far.

Grounding is the starting place of inner strength and personal power, where we come back to connection the moment that we become aware of what is happening in our bodies, minds and hearts.  When we are grounded, we are not easily pulled or pushed away from ourselves. We are rooted like a tree, and we can tap into a feeling of solidness that does not question who we are or doubt what we know. Grounding is an ongoing conversation with our intuition about what is true. When distractions inevitably pull us off of our center, honesty is our surest pathway back to home.

We feel more freedom and flow when we are grounded. We express ourselves more boldy because we’re not holding ourselves back with any fear or shame. There is a life to what we say and a vitality to our presence. We’re not working too hard or forcing anything. We’re trusting and allowing things to work out. We’re abstaining from the need to control our experiences. When we stop and let go, it becomes easier to notice a greater wholeness that we are part of.

As I practice grounding, I’m finding that it’s often the little, physical things that matter the most: getting up and moving when I feel stuck, eating when I feel hungry, warming myself when I feel cold, or shifting my position when I feel uncomfortable. The symbol that often comes to me is an ocean wave. Waves are a picture of the never-ending ups and downs in my experiences. Grounding is my willingness to stay with my body through all these ups and downs, in every state and through every gain and loss, all my wins and failures.

I want to invite you to take a moment to think about what actions help you to feel grounded and connected to yourself. What do you need to notice or allow? What kind of safety or support is your body telling you that it needs right now? Maybe a situation is calling for you to decide one way or another where you stand. What helps you to tune into your environment and trust in the process?
